poetry of the soulReviewed by My Stars*, 2009-05-09
my god this album brings me back to a certain place in time!there interwoven within the melodies are the autumn days, the rain gently falling, the smell of sandlewood and champa,my cat curled up on the bed with my ex.,the heartache is so sweet.thank you TBS for reminding me of those days and who i am.
Not quite what I thought they'd be, but I'm certainly not

I hadn't even heard of Trembling Blue Stars until a couple of
months ago, when I heard them on internet radio. I heard "Sometimes
I Still Feel the Bruise" off this album and was deeply impressed.
When I bought the album, I didn't expect a whole album that sounded
like that song, but I somehow still expected something different
from what I got--I guess expected more emotion in the music than
what I got. So, if anyone wants to buy this album after hearing one
of their released tracks, keep in mind that the other songs do
occasionally sound pretty different from the singles (but, that's
not unheard of, is it?).
That being said, I still really like this album! Of course,
"Sometimes I Still Feel the Bruise" is a great song, but I also
found an incredible gem in "Snow Showers". These two songs alone
push the album past mediocrity. Fortunately, "To Leave it Now" (
with its wonderful, driving beat), "I No Longer Know Anything"
(with its heartbreaking lyrics and perfectly matched music), and
"Sleep" (also with a driving beat, but much darker) all work to
make this album pretty good overall. More importantly, it's worth
the money, especially if you don't have to shell out the full price
(i.e. if its bought used).
Personally, I've always found that the emotion conveyed in music is
incredibly important (because, if the music can't make you feel
SOMETHING, then what's the point of it, right?). In that spirit,
Trembling Blue Stars gets across just enough emotion in this album
to make it worthy of frequent listening. Furthermore, Broken by
Whispers has convinced me that I have to buy more of their albums!
yeah for trembling blue starsReviewed by melody lover, 2007-02-17
I love this band. Robert Wratten is of these guys who finds beautiful melodies endlessly then puts hooks all over the place + has a magnifiscent voice. It's generally slow though, which I like. This is a great album.
One of the best bands I've never heardReviewed by superinkygrrl, 2005-03-14
I can't believe this album was released 5 years ago, but I only
just recently heard it for the first time. Literally, TBS drew me
in the moment the first song started.
Overall, their stuff is quiet, thoughtful, sparse (without
neglecting melody) and melancholy. In many ways I think it's a
great testament to a group when I find it difficult to describe
them, yet easy to describe how they made me feel.
Stunning albumReviewed by Anonymous, 2003-04-15
This is one of those rare music gems that the uninitiated might easily pass by. It the type of album that will soon become one of favorites, even if you knew almost nothing about the band before buying.
The music is beautiful and heartfelt, possessing the type of inteligent, passionate lyrics that are one seldom finds in standard cookie-cutter pop radio offerings these days.
Take my advice -- give this CD a try!
